As a mom who has raised two young daughters with diabetes, I’ve personally witnessed the incessant battle of my children to survive 24/7, 365 days a year, year after year.

Diabetes is an incurable disease and takes no vacations. We’ve checked blood sugars up to 12 times a day – 360 times a month. Just getting the right dose of insulin has been tricky business, too. Weather, exercise, stress, and eating, all cause blood sugar levels to fluctuate constantly. Even a hot bath induced my daughter into a diabetes related seizure! I am gravely aware that uncontrolled or mismanaged blood sugar levels can result in complications, such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, amputation, kidney failure, and death. Diabetes never sleeps, and I’m part of a full-time ongoing battle.
